Jacks' Extreme
African Adventure

During a mission trip to Zambia, Africa in 1998 we took a sightseeing trip to Victoria Falls. At Victoria Falls the Zambezi River is the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Across the river is a very high bridge, 111 meters to be exact. Located on the bridge is the highest natural bungi jump in the world, ran by a professional outfit called African Extreme. I couldn't resist taking the jump, so, $90 US dollars later I was weighed, harnessed up and ready to jump. Here's a few pics of the jump ...

The jump was truly an incredible experience, to say the least. When I first stepped out onto the jumping platform utter fear came over me ! I slowly inched my feet to the edge, it was hard as my ankles were tied together. I was really scared of trying to step forward and falling forwards and tumbling over the edge before it was time to jump. So, after inching my way to the edge of the platform with my toes hanging over the edge, I got a few words of wisdom from the guy running the jump on the bridge. He counted down 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... BUNGI and I jumped out into a fairly lame swan dive as is evidenced in the "The Jump" picture above. In the edge of that same picture you see the jump master's arm, yep, after watching several others jump, I firmly believe he'd have pushed me if I hadn't jumped on my own. ;-) Overall it was great ... an incredible rush of adrenaline which I re-experience every time I watch the video or look at these pictures.
