Project Truck Buildup
|
|
19 Mar 2002: The base for this project
is an 88 Toyota 4x4 Pickup I got for $500 with a removed and disassembled
engine but more or less a complete truck. |
27 Mar 2002: Some pics of the front end
with the sheet metal removed. |
2 Apr 2002: A couple of pics of the
T350 to Toyota Transfer case adapter I picked up used. It has no
identifying marks but I believe it's a Downey adapter. |
13 Apr 2002: A pic of the transmission,
a T350. I picked it up from a guy who just had it rebuilt at the end of
Feb. and decided not to use it. It also came with a brand new torque
convertor and a NP203 adapter. |
13 Apr 2002: A shot of the rear xmember
before I installed the shackle lug or welded the xmember in place. It's
2x3x3/16" box tube. |
24 Apr 2002: A couple of pics during
removal of the cab and a shot with the cab removed and part of the IFS
disassembled. |
24 Apr 2002: A pic of the 92 Land
Cruiser master cylinder w/o ABS I got from a junkyard off the net.
|
11 May 2002: The obligatory torch
carnage shot and a shot of the frame with most everything torched off and
some of it ground clean. |
1 June 2002: A shot of the frame ground smooth with a light
coat of paint to prevent rust since I ground it bare in so many places. Also, a pic with the
front crossmember removed and another behind it to hold the frame rails in place displayed by my faithful assistant Jessi. |
3 June 2002: A couple of pics of the piece of 2.5" x 3/16" tube being used to lengthen the frame. (tentatively set at 6.5")
|
23 June 2002:
Spring hangers with the fronts plated with 3/16" to give lateral stability and act as a ramp should the need arise.
|
6 July 2002:
Front cross member fabricated from 2x4x3/16" tube with spring hangers welded to it. I notched the 2x4 tube 1/2" to get an overall dropped front spring hanger of approx 1.5" and to keep the piece of 2x4 tube from just looking so "hack" welded to the bottom of the frame rails. |
13 July 2002:
Misc front cross member pics ... |
11 Aug 2002:
Rear spring hanger ... started out with a
piece of 3x3x3/16 tube but was a bit narrow so I cut it and added a bit to make the id 2 7/8" |
28 Aug 2002:
front shackle hanger ... my frame
extension made the proper position of the hanger be partially hanging off the frame. So,
I took a piece of tube and made an angular support to the side of the frame. |
21 Oct 2002:
I picked up a rear D60 with a Detroit a while back and I just put disc brakes on it. I used the $6.77 brackets from aa-mfg. They worked well with some slight modification due to my application. |
25 Dec 2002:
A shot of the Corbeau Baja SS seats I got for Christmas
|
1 June 2003:
Alot has been accomplished that I haven't documented. I'll try to catch up with the pics soon.
|
2 June 2003:
A shot of the Dana 60 to Toyota driveshaft flange that I made by cutting and turning the splined portion off of the toyota flange. And cutting and turning the u-joint ears off of the D60 yoke. Then once I had them to where the ID of the Toyota flange was the same as the OD of the D60 splined piece.
A bevel was turned onto the leading edges of both pieces so a good weld could be achieved. The two pieces were then pressed together. Then the piece was chucked back up in the lathe to assure straightness. And then finally TIG welded together.

10 Apr 2002: A pic of the powerplant for
this project, a 1995 5.7L TBI engine with approx. 80K on it.
